I like old photographs of relatives
in black and white, their faces set like stone.
They knew this was serious business.
My favorite album is the one that's filled
with people none of us can even name.
I find the recent ones more difficult.
I wonder, now, if anyone remembers
how fiercely I refused even to stand
beside him for this picture — how I shrank
back from his hand and found the other side.
Forever now, for future family,
we will be framed like this, although no one
will wonder at the way we are arranged.
No one will ever wonder, since we'll be
forever smiling there — our mouths all teeth.
THE SAND AND SEA
The sea, the sea: calling out to you and me
Waves rush in to caress the sand
Only to roll out again
The sea, the sea: calmness in its water
But in one fowl swoop
The calm has turned sour
The sea, the sea: breezes clear as day
Salty air meets our lips
Longer, will we stay?
The sea, the sea: soft sand beneath our feet
Breeze cooling our hot hands
One look at your eyes and I Know
The sea, the sea: our ally and friend
The seascape drawing us in
In triumph, two sweethearts toge ther
Creating Minstrels in the sand.
RAIN:
Rain Rain Rain, Up above from the skies u come, As drops of joy As drops of sorrow As a shower of blessing from the heavens. Rain Rain Rain, Pitter patter pitter patter on the window panes, thunder and lightning fill up the skies creating an orchestral symphony. Rain Rain Rain, With wind, sun and clouds, seven colors u bring together and joy in our hearts. Rain Rain Rain A miracle to a drought A curse when in glut, tiny silver crystals trickles from up above.
GUITAR:
theres blood running down my fingers
From the strings of this guitar
Tears stain it's polished wood
As I'm trying to find myself in the stars
Looking out this window
With my guitar in my hands
I cradle it close to my heart
Because it is the sole thing that understands
It never asks me why
Never wants me to explain
It simply accepts the strumming
That is the symphony of my pain
My guitar has seen the secrets
No one else will ever see
But no matter what it knows
It doesn't turn away from me
These strings cut my thumb and fingers
Bidding them to bleed
But the blood and pain is worth it
For the few hours that I am free
Living in my music
Sheltered in the sound
It holds me in its tight embrace
And picks me up after I hit the ground
I see no greater compassion
Nothing more heart warming has come thus far
As the boundless love and devotion
I get from this guitar
My companion and my confidante
The angel that helps me by
The best comfort there can be
From something that can't wipe the tears from my eyes
I've felt nothing so intenseAs long as I have lived
Than when my fingers intertwine with the strings
And we pour out all the love we can give
My heart may be bleeding and broken
But this guitar will find the glue
To put it back together the way it was
Before our song is through
And as I'm looking out this window
Unable to find myself in the stars
I look at the instrument in my hands
And realize that I have found myself in this guitar.
CANDLES:

Love is like a candlelight,
Glowing in the dark
The warmness kindles
From a tiny spark.
The light is soft at first,
Then, it grows bright,
For some, it grows over time,
For some, it's love at first sight.
If not taken care of,
The flame will slowly die
And when it's gone, it leaves you
Sitting there, wondering, why?
SLIPPERS: flippeting, floppeting
down the beach
with colors of silver and purple and peach
flippeting, floppeting
t hrough the sand
making flippety footprints
wherever they land
the flippeting, floppeting never stops
when you're wearing flip-flops!
